Getting Online Without Wifi

For iPhone, iPad or Android Phone users, getting on the net is one of their primary reason of buying their phone or tablet. Sure there's wifi, but what if its unavailable, here are some tips on how to connect wirelessly using 3G or HSDPA.

First, you should know where to look for the settings on your device.

For iPhone and iPad (3G) users, here is where to go:

Settings > General > Network > Cellular Data Network

Make sure Enable 3G is on, otherwise you'll be connected to GPRS (which is like a 33.6k modem) instead of the faster 3G connection.

For Android users, here is where to go :

Settings > Wireless & Networks > Mobile Networks > Access Point Names

if there already a preset APN, you may edit it by selecting it and change the APN

if no preset APN is available, you can press the menu key, and on the bottom, you will find a (+) New APN button, that you can use to add APN.

Now what to do after you've found out where to set the APN, here are the setting for Philippine subscribers.

for Globe Subscribers :

Globe Broadband Postpaid
Profile Name : Globe Broadband Postpaid
Select Static
APN : internet.globe.com.ph
Access number : *99# or *99***1#
To Activate SIM : insert SIM and text TIME send to 1111 (This will also shift your data billing to time browsing instead of kb browsing, text kb if you want to revert to per kb browsing)

Globe Broadband Prepaid
Profile Name : Globe Broadband Prepaid
Select Static
APN : http.globe.com.ph
Access number : *99# or *99***1#

APN (prepaid accounts) : http.globe.com.ph
To Activate SIM : insert SIM and text TIME send to 1111 (This will also shift your data billing to time browsing instead of kb browsing, text kb if you want to revert to per kb browsing)

for Smart Subscribers :

Smart does thing differently, they work on dynamic APNs, so sometimes leaving it blank may also work ... i think.

for Sun Cellular Subscribers :

Sun Wireless Prepaid
Profile Name : SUN Internet
Select Static
APN : minternet
Access number : *99#

To Activate : insert SIM and text Activate send to 2300

Sun Wireless Postpaid

or

or

Profile Name : SUN Broadband Nomad

For all settings, you should leave all the other fields blank, meaning no username, no password, just the APN.

These settings are also applicable to 3G USB dongles, or 3G routers.
